The Selection Criteria of Stock Companies in This Index
All regular shares listed on the NSE can be part of the Nifty indices. However, stocks like convertible bonds or preferred shares that promise a fixed return cannot be included.To be part of this index, a company must meet these criteria:
- It should have been traded on at least 90% of the trading days in the last six months.
- Securities must be among the top 800 companies based on average daily trading and market value over the last six months.
- Its market value should be at least 1.5 times that of the smallest company currently in the index.
- Securities will be removed if their market capitalisation drops below 800.
- Its market value should be in the top 350.
- The company must have been listed for at least one month by the cutoff date.
The index is adjusted every six months. The dates for these adjustments are January 31 and July 31 each year. Data from the six months ending on these dates is used for each adjustment. The market is notified about the changes four weeks in advance.
